Research
Elections Canada conducts and commissions research on an ongoing basis, particularly following each general election and by-election. This section is the central location for accessing our research.
Election Research
After each general election and by-election, Elections Canada conducts research to help evaluate its performance, support policy and program development, identify improvements that need to be made to the electoral process and inform the CEO’s recommendations to Parliament. Generally, the results are published within six months after the data is collected.
Research on Electoral Participation
To address barriers to voting, Elections Canada looks at post-election surveys, and research on participation and democratic engagement. Elections Canada also has ongoing consultations and relationships with various stakeholder groups.
Administration of Elections
Elections Canada conducts studies to understand the public perception of federal election administration, compare the approach taken by different electoral management bodies and examine the role of technology in voter registration and voting, and potential impacts of changes from legislative initiatives.
Library and Archives Canada
When contracting a company to conduct public opinion research, Elections Canada submits the resulting report to Library and Archives Canada within six months after the data is collected.
You can read all of Elections Canada's public opinion research reports on Library and Archives Canada's website . Please note that formatting of reports may vary across Elections Canada and Library and Archives Canada websites.
