CHIEF ELECTORAL OFFICER OF CANADA ANNOUNCES
AMENDMENT TO REGISTRY OF PARTIES REFLECTING MERGER OF CANADIAN REFORM CONSERVATIVE ALLIANCE AND PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF CANADA INTO CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF CANADA

OTTAWA, Monday, December 8, 2003Jean-Pierre Kingsley, Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, announced that the registry of parties was amended yesterday by replacing the names Canadian Reform Conservative Alliance and Progressive Conservative Party of Canada with the name Conservative Party of Canada.

The two parties applied under section 400 of the Canada Elections Act to become a single registered party as a result of their merger.

"I have reviewed the application and have determined that criteria set out in the Canada Elections Act were met and have made the required amendments to the registry," stated Jean-Pierre Kingsley.

According to the Canada Elections Act, the merger of the parties is effective on the day the Chief Electoral Officer amends the registry of parties. The consequences of such a merger are set out in section 402 of the Act.
