Judicial Recount to Be Held in the Electoral District of
Parry Sound–Muskoka
OTTAWA, Wednesday, February 1, 2006 — The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean‑Pierre Kingsley, announced today that there will be a judicial recount of the votes in Parry Sound–Muskoka (Ontario). Under the Canada Elections Act, a judicial recount is automatically required when the difference in votes between the first- and second-place candidates is less than 1/1000 of the total votes cast in a riding.
Following validation of the results in the electoral district of Parry Sound–Muskoka (Ontario), the difference between the two leading candidates was 29 votes, less than 1/1000 of the 46,331 votes cast in the electoral district.
The recount will be conducted by a judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. The results of the recount will be published on the Elections Canada Web site after the recount is completed.
