ELECTIONS CANADA ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF JUDICIAL RECOUNT IN THE ELECTORAL DISTRICT OF CAMBRIDGE

OTTAWA, Wednesday, July 7, 2004 — The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean-Pierre Kingsley, announced today that Gary Goodyear has been declared elected in the electoral district of Cambridge (Ontario), following a judicial recount completed on July 7, 2004, by Justice Stephen Glithero of the Superior Court of Justice.

At the 38th general election held on June 28, 2004, the difference between the Conservative Party of Canada candidate, Gary Goodyear, and the Liberal Party of Canada candidate, Janko Peric, was 228 votes in favour of Gary Goodyear. Following the judicial recount, the difference between the two candidates is 224 votes.

The following are the results of the recount for all candidates in the riding of Cambridge:

The returning officer for Cambridge, Mary O’Connor, will complete the writ of election and forward it to the Chief Electoral Officer, who will sign the writ, officially declaring Gary Goodyear elected.
