ELECTIONS CANADA ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF JUDICIAL RECOUNT IN THE ELECTORAL DISTRICT OF EDMONTON—BEAUMONT

OTTAWA, Thursday, July 8, 2004 — The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean-Pierre Kingsley, announced today that David Kilgour has been declared elected in the electoral district of Edmonton–Beaumont (Alberta), following a judicial recount completed on July 7, 2004, by Justice Brian R. Burrows of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta.

At the 38th general election held on June 28, 2004, the difference between the Liberal Party of Canada candidate, David Kilgour, and the Conservative Party of Canada candidate, Tim Uppal, was 131 votes in favour of David Kilgour. Following the judicial recount, the difference between the two candidates is 134 votes.

The following are the results of the recount for all candidates in the riding of Edmonton–Beaumont:

The returning officer for Edmonton–Beaumont, Donna Wilson, will complete the writ of election and forward it to the Chief Electoral Officer, who will sign the writ, officially declaring David Kilgour elected.
