JUDICIAL RECOUNT TERMINATED IN THE ELECTORAL DISTRICT
OF NEW WESTMINSTER–COQUITLAM

OTTAWA, Tuesday, July 13, 2004 — The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean-Pierre Kingsley, announced today that a judicial recount of the votes in New Westminster–Coquitlam (British Columbia) was terminated at the request of the applicant, after a partial recount was conducted. As a result, the returning officer of the electoral district has declared elected Paul Forseth, the candidate of the Conservative Party of Canada.

At the 38th general election held on June 28, 2004, the difference between the Conservative Party of Canada candidate, Paul Forseth, and the New Democratic Party candidate, Steve McClurg, was 114 votes in favour of Paul Forseth. Following the partial recount, the difference between the two candidates is 113 votes.

The following are the results for all candidates, as certified by Associate Chief Justice Patrick Dohm of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, in the riding of New Westminster–Coquitlam:

The returning officer for New Westminster–Coquitlam, Leslie Neil Budd, will complete the writ of election and forward it to the Chief Electoral Officer.
