ELECTIONS CANADA RELEASES SPENDING LIMITS FOR CANDIDATES

(OTTAWA, April 2, 2002) — The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean-Pierre Kingsley, today released the election expense limits for candidates in Windsor West, Saint Boniface, Saint–Léonard—Saint-Michel, Bonavista—Trinity—Conception and Calgary Southwest for the by–elections to be held on Monday, May 13, 2002.

These limits are based on the number of electors on the preliminary list of electors, using a formula set out in the Canada Elections Act which provides for adjustments for sparsely populated as well as geographically large ridings.

The following list provides the election expense limits for candidates in each riding.

The Act allows for adjustments to be made to these expense limits based on the revised list of electors. Final expense limits for candidates will be released on or before May 6, 2002.
