Judicial Recount to Be Held in the Electoral District of
Montmagny–L'Islet–Kamouraska–Rivière du Loup

OTTAWA, Wednesday, May 4, 2011 — The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Marc Mayrand, announced today that there will be a judicial recount of the votes in Montmagny–L'Islet–Kamouraska–Rivière du Loup (Québec). Under the Canada Elections Act, a judicial recount is automatically required when the difference in votes between the first- and second-place candidates is less than one one-thousandth of the total votes cast in a riding.

Following validation of the results in the electoral district of Montmagny–L'Islet–Kamouraska–Rivière du Loup (Québec), the difference between the two leading candidates was 5 votes, which is less than one one-thousandth of the 48,225 votes cast in the electoral district.

The recount will be conducted by a judge of the Quebec Superior Court. The results of the recount will be published on the Elections Canada Web site after the recount is completed
