How to Import Contributions

Transcription

Welcome to this module on importing contributions.

The module shows you how to import contributions into EFR from a spreadsheet.

Your spreadsheet must use a certain format. You can find acceptable formats in the EFR User Guide, available from the help menu. Or you can find electronic templates in the following directory on your computer: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\EFR\.

Once your spreadsheet is created, you must save it as a tab-delimited text file.

Let's look at an example. We'll start by saving your spreadsheet as a text file:

  1. Open your spreadsheet.
  2. Click on the File tab.
  3. Click Save As.
  4. In the drop-down menu, select Text (Tab Delimited).
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click Yes to confirm.

Now let's look at the steps to take in EFR:

  1. Start EFR to import the contributions.
  2. From the top menu, click Utilities.
  3. Click Import Text File.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select the reporting event and political entity.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Select the type of data you wish to import and click Next.
  8. Click Browse to select the file you want to import into EFR.
  9. In this example, we will use the file we just created, which is called "EFR_Contributions.txt".
  10. Click Open.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Click Next to continue.
  13. Shaded cells contain errors that need to be corrected. They must be corrected here, or the data in these cells will not be imported. In our case, we will delete the entry by clicking Delete.
  14. Click Next.
  15. These entries will be imported.
  16. Click Next to continue.
  17. Click Finish.
  18. Click on the Contributions tab.
  19. Click Yes to perform the validation.
  20. Click OK.
  21. Click Save.
  22. The contributions have been imported successfully.
