By-Elections 1996 – Official Voting Results and Candidates' Contributions and Expenses

FOREWORD

This report covers all the by-elections held in 1996. In accordance with paragraph 193(b) of the Canada Elections Act, R.S.C., c.E-2, it presents the poll-by-poll voting results for each of the seven by-elections held during the past year.

Also summarized here are the contributions received by the candidates at these by-elections and the election expenses they reported.

The administrative aspects of the 1996 by-elections have been reviewed in two statutory reports previously published by the Chief Electoral Officer.

These various reports are made available with the aim of providing explicit and complete information to the public about the administration of these electoral events, thereby increasing the transparency of the Canadian electoral process.
