By-elections 1999 – Official Voting Results

Foreword

This report deals with the five federal by-elections held in 1999: Hull–Aylmer, Mount Royal, Saskatoon–Rosetown–Biggar, Windsor–St. Clair and York West.

I am pleased to publish the report to satisfy the requirements of the Canada Elections Act and also to ensure that Canadians have accurate and complete information on the by-elections. It is through such a public report that Parliament and Elections Canada are making the Canadian electoral system more open and transparent.

This report presents the results of the vote, by polling division, for each of the five byelections, in accordance with paragraph 193(b) of the Canada Elections Act, R.S.C., c. E-2. Subsection 195(1) of the Act also requires me to report on the administration of each of the by-elections. The first report, which was published in May 1999, concerned the by-election in Windsor–St. Clair, and the second, published in January 2000, covers the other four by-elections.

Information on contributions and election expenses declared by the candidates in these by-elections will be available in April 2000 on the Elections Canada Web site (http://www.elections.ca).

Jean-Pierre Kingsley
Chief Electoral Officer of Canada
