Dear Mr. Preston:
Further to your invitation, I am looking forward to meeting with the Committee on October 5, and discussing the proposals contained in my report entitled Responding to Changing Needs – Recommendations from the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada Following the 40th General Election. It is my opinion that the proposed amendments to the Canada Elections Act contained in the report are desirable for the better administration of the Act.
In this regard, I am also taking this opportunity to forward to the Committee one further technical recommendation for a legislative amendment to the definitions of leadership and nomination campaign expenses, which should have been included in Part IV of my report. I would appreciate this proposal being considered at the same time as those contained in the recommendations report.
