Apply to vote by mail: International web submission instructions

All fields identified with an asterisk (*) are mandatory. All mandatory fields must be completed to submit your application electronically.

Full name and contact information

Given name, middle name(s), family name: These must match the names on your proof of identity.

Gender: In keeping with the Policy Direction to Modernize the Government of Canada's Sex and Gender Information Practices, individuals are provided with at least three options (male, female, another gender) with the third option "another gender" being respectful and inclusive of people with other gender identities.

Phone number and email address: The information you provide will only be used to contact you for the following reasons:

  • To obtain more information to complete your application;
  • To provide updates on the status of your application and/or voting kit
  • To contact you if there are difficulties in delivering your voting kit.

We recommend providing both a phone number and an email address, if possible.

Last address before leaving Canada

This is your last address in Canada. It determines your riding. You will vote for a candidate in the riding containing this address.

  • You must use a physical address. You cannot use a post office box or rural route, except in areas where no other physical address is available.
  • This address cannot be changed after your name is added to the International Register of Electors.
  • Postal code: Please enter the postal code with no space. For example: K1A0M6.

Mailing address

This is where we will send your voting kit. This address can only contain English and French characters.

You have the option of using the address of a Canadian embassy or consulate as your mailing address, if you arrange it with them beforehand and give them your contact information.

Registration status

National Register of Electors: This is Elections Canada's permanent database of eligible voters.

Inclusion in the National Register is optional. Personal information contained in the National Register, excluding your date of birth, is used to prepare lists of electors shared with members of Parliament, political parties and candidates for uses authorized by the Canada Elections Act. In accordance with information-sharing agreements, also authorized under the Act, we may also disclose personal information in the National Register to provincial and territorial electoral agencies and municipalities. Some of this information may be shared with the Commissioner of Canada Elections for purposes of the Commissioner's duty to ensure that the Canada Elections Act and the Referendum Act are complied with and enforced. Please contact us in writing if you are already listed in the National Register and wish to be removed, or if you do not wish to have your information shared with your provincial or territorial electoral agency or municipality.

Attach images of your supporting document(s)

What to attach

Attach an image of one of these identity documents:

  • Pages 2 and 3 of your Canadian passport,
  • Your Canadian citizenship certificate or card, or
  • Your birth certificate, showing that you were born in Canada

The information on your pieces of identification MUST match the information you provide in your application.

How to attach the image file(s)

Scan or take a digital photo of your supporting document(s).

  • Size: each file must be under 2.5 MB.
  • Format: PDF or any image file type (JPEG, GIF, TIF, PNG, etc.).

Once you have the image(s) you want to attach:

  1. Click on the Browse button beside "Choose file." A new window will open.
  2. Find the image you want to attach and select it. You will now see text in the "Choose file" line – this shows that you have attached the image.
  3. Repeat these steps as needed to attach all required supporting documents. You may attach up to five images.
