Elections Canada: Young Voters: Learning Resources: Resources for Teachers: Choosing Our Mascot

Choosing Our Mascot

0Learning to vote is important. With Choosing Our Mascot, it's also fun!

Choosing Our Mascot is an election simulation scenario for children aged five to ten, in school (kindergarten to Grade 4) or youth groups. The purpose of the election is to choose a mascot that reflects the group's spirit.

Five animals from the Canadian North have been chosen as candidates to introduce children across the country to the realities of the North. The honorary returning officer is singer Susan Aglukark and the illustrations are by Germaine Arnaktauyok.

A co-production of Elections Canada and Elections Northwest Territories, Choosing Our Mascot complements both the Election Simulation and the School Elections Officer Guide, which are both for students from Grade 5 to the final year of high school and for youth group leaders. Do not hesitate to combine elements of these two tools to better suit the needs of your group.
