Political parties do not report contributions for an electoral event. They do, however, submit annual fiscal returns with detailed information on their contributors. Click here to access the financial returns of political parties.
Just follow the directions given in answer to the first question above but choose the report "Details of expenses (Part 6 of candidates return)".
Political parties report election expenses, for general elections only, as total amounts broken down into categories. You can look these over in the various tables presented in the Search by common query option.
After choosing your election, choose the Search by electoral district. You can search up to six ridings at a time.
After choosing your election, choose Search by candidate. After choosing the candidate, just click on "Continue" at the bottom of each results page.
After choosing your election, choose Search by contributor. Enter the name of the contributor you wish to search for. Tip: enter the family name only; the contributor about whom you want information may be listed with full name, initial(s) only, or a combination thereof. The report will give you the names of the candidate(s) to whom the person contributed, the electoral district, the candidates political affiliation, and the amount and category of the donation.
When you are on the results page, click on "View a tab-delimited text version of this report". You can then choose "Save As" from the File menu of your browser and save this text file on your computer. Be sure to give the file a ".txt" extension. Please note that the newest versions of certain browsers (Netscape, Firefox, etc.) will not permit you to use this function. Please use an Internet Explorer version (new or old) if you encounter problems in trying to use the download function with other browsers.
Every results page from the Search by custom query to the Search by contributor can be sorted as you choose. Just click on the title of the field by which you would like to sort the results (all the fields titles are linked) and the database will re-order the data either alphabetically or in a descending numerical order.
The Search by electoral district results can all be printed on 8 1/2 " × 11" paper, portrait orientation (normal settings).
The Search by custom query and the Search by candidate results can be printed on legal paper, landscape orientation, for the largest pages. Printing needs vary depending on the number of candidates and number of fields you are searching. One more tip: should you not be able to print legal, landscape, you can try to reduce your browsers default font size or reduce your margins.
