Important deadlines for the leadership contestant's campaign:
As the leadership contestant's campaign starts, the leadership contestant must:
- Appoint a financial agent1
- Appoint an auditor2
- Open campaign bank account3
- Submit Leadership Contestant's Registration Report to Elections Canada with application for registration
- Directed contributions may not be received by the contestant's campaign until the leadership contestant's registration has been confirmed
Due 3 weeks before leadership contest day:
- Leadership Contestant's Campaign Return (if applicable4)
Due 2 days before leadership contest day:
- Leadership Contestant's Interim Campaign Return (if applicable4)
Within 5 months after the leadership contest day the financial agent must receive:
- The Leadership Contestant's Statement of Personal Expenses and all supporting documents from the leadership contestant
Note that if a claim or loan is paid any time after the campaign return is filed, the financial agent must send an updated campaign return to Elections Canada within 30 days.
Within 6 months after the leadership contest day the financial agent sends:
- The Auditor's Report (if applicable5)
- The Leadership Contestant's Campaign Return (accompanied by all required documents to Elections Canada)
Within 19 months after the leadership contest day the financial agent sends:
- The Leadership Contestant's Statement of Unpaid Claims and Loans 18 or 36 Months After the End of the Leadership Contest (if applicable6)
Within 37 months after the leadership contest day the financial agent sends:
- The Leadership Contestant's Statement of Unpaid Claims and Loans 18 or 36 Months After the End of the Leadership Contest (if applicable6)
