Difficulties Complying with Nomination Requirements

The bar graph is titled "Difficulties Complying with Nomination Requirements." It shows the breakdown of answers to Question 4, "Why was this not easy?" Up to three responses were accepted. The 176 respondents who said it was not easy to comply with the nomination requirements gave the following reasons:

• 60 percent found it difficult to get the required number of signatures
• 26 percent found there was too much paperwork or bureaucracy
• 15 percent found it difficult to get the $1,000 deposit
• 15 percent found there were difficulties as an independent, or as part of a small or new party
• 10 percent found it difficult to meet the deadline
• 9 percent found that the procedures or requirements were not explained
• 6 percent found there was too much travelling
• 5 percent found it difficult to appoint an official agent
• 3 percent found the returning officer difficult
• 3 indicated other reasons
• 1 percent did not answer
