The Honourable Mr. Justice Guy J. Kroft

The Honourable Mr. Justice Guy J. Kroft was granted a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955 and a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1959, both from the University of Manitoba. He was an associate and partner in the Winnipeg law firm Thompson, Dorman, Sweatman. Mr. Justice Kroft was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1977 and in 1979 he was appointed to the Court of Queen's Bench of Manitoba. In 1987, he was appointed Deputy Judge to the Supreme Court of the Yukon Territory. Mr. Justice Kroft was appointed to the Court of Appeal of Manitoba in February 1993.

Mr. Raymond M. Hébert

Mr. Raymond M. Hébert is a professor of Political Studies and Canadian
Studies at the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface. He has published
numerous articles on minority language and constitutional issues, both in
academic journals and in the popular press in Canada. He is also well known in
Canada as a political analyst and commentator, in both official languages. He is
a Past President of the Association for Canadian Studies (1998-2000) and taught
an introductory course on Canadian politics at the Canadian Studies Center at
the University of Washington in Seattle for several years. In 1999, he developed
and launched the first Internet Master’s program in Canadian studies in Canada;
this bilingual program is available to students around the world. Mr. Hébert has
been appointed to numerous government committees and commissions, and is
currently Deputy Chairperson of the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for
Manitoba and Chair of the Advisory Committee on Marketing and Programming to the
National Capital Commission. In 1997, he was appointed a Consultant to the High
Commissioner on National Minorities, O.S.C.E., and participated in a mission to
Macedonia. In an earlier career, he was Assistant Deputy
Minister of Education responsible for French-language education in Manitoba
(1976-79).

Ms. Caterina M. (Bueti) Sotiriadis
(Member)
Ms. Caterina M. (Bueti) Sotiriadis is the Basic (Core) French Consultant for the Bureau de l'éducation française of the Department of Education, Training and Youth of the Government of Manitoba. She was granted a Bachelor of Arts with Honours by the University of Manitoba. Awarded a scholarship by La Sorbonne, Ms. Sotiriadis completed her teaching certificate in Paris. She returned to the University of Manitoba, where she was granted Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees. Ms. Sotiriadis has taught modern languages in the public school system of Manitoba. She has also taught methodology and language courses in the faculties of Education and Arts at the University of Manitoba and at the University of Caen, France.
