Deregistration of Newfoundland and Labrador First Party
OTTAWA, Monday, January 10, 2011
- The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Marc Mayrand, has informed the leader of the Newfoundland and Labrador First Party that the party is deregistered, effective January 31, 2011.
- The party has been deregistered for non-compliance with its financial reporting obligations (ss. 372 and 424) and with the confirmation of membership requirement (s. 384) imposed by the Canada Elections Act.
- The party may no longer issue tax receipts for contributions received and is no longer entitled to any of the benefits of a registered party under the Act, including the use of allocated broadcasting time and the right to have the party's name appear on ballots in future general elections or by-elections.
- An updated list of registered political parties is available on Elections Canada's Web site.
