Judicial Recount to Be Held in the Electoral District of
Nipissing–Timiskaming

OTTAWA, Thursday, May 5, 2011 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Marc Mayrand, announced today that there will be a judicial recount of the votes in Nipissing–Timiskaming (Ontario). Under the Canada Elections Act, a judicial recount is automatically required when the difference in votes between the first- and second-place candidates is less than one one-thousandth of the total votes cast in a riding.

Following validation of the results in the electoral district of Nipissing–Timiskaming (Ontario), the difference between the two leading candidates was 15 votes, which is less than one one-thousandth of the 42,492 votes cast in the electoral district.

The recount will be conducted by a judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario. The results of the recount will be published on the Elections Canada Web site after the recount is completed
