Pre-election period starts on June 30

Provisions recently added to the Canada Elections Act have introduced a new regulated period, the pre-election period, which starts on June 30, 2019, and ends on the day before the general election is called. During this period, registered parties and registered third parties are subject to spending limits and reporting obligations for certain regulated activities. In addition, the new provisions require online platforms that meet a certain monthly visitor threshold to share information with regards to political ads.
