Referendum Act, S.C. 1992, c. 30.

Regulation Adapting the Canada Elections Act for the Purposes of a Referendum, SOR/2010-20.

Subsection 7(3) of the Referendum Act authorizes the Chief Electoral Officer to adapt, by regulation, the Canada Elections Act in any manner he considers necessary to apply that Act for the purposes of a referendum.

This notice is a consequence of the repealing by the Chief Electoral Officer of the Regulation Adapting the Canada Elections Act for the Purposes of a Referendum made on December 20, 2001, and registered under SOR/2002-25, and its replacement with the Regulation Adapting the Canada Elections Act for the Purposes of a Referendum made on February 2, 2010, and registered under SOR/2010-20.

The Regulation Adapting the Canada Elections Act for the Purposes of a Referendum has been updated to reflect the different amendments made to the Canada Elections Act since 2001, including those brought in by the Federal Accountability Act, S.C. 2006, c. 9, An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act and the Public Service Employment Act, S.C. 2007, c. 21, and An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act (verification of residence), S.C. 2007, c. 37.
