Invitation to participate in the Student Vote Canada 2019 program

Subject:

Invitation to participate in the Student Vote Canada 2019 program

Text description:

It is our pleasure to invite your school to participate in Student Vote Canada 2019.

Student Vote is an authentic learning program that gives elementary and high school students the chance to experience the voting process firsthand and develop the habits of active and informed citizens.

Student Vote is a program of CIVIX. Elections Canada has engaged CIVIX to deliver Student Vote for the 2019 federal election. More than 9,000 schools and one million students are expected to participate from throughout the country.

Students will learn about government and the electoral process; practice digital literacy skills before they research the parties and candidates; and discuss the election with family and friends. The program ends with a parallel vote where students will act as election workers and vote for the official candidates running in their school’s riding. The Student Vote results are shared publicly after the close of the federal election polls.

An independent evaluation commissioned by Elections Canada in 2015 confirmed that Student Vote has a positive impact on student knowledge and understanding of Canadian politics and elections, their interest and confidence in discussing politics, and future voting intentions.

The program is offered free to any school, and materials are available in both official languages. Schools may register at www.studentvote.ca/canada or by calling 1-866-488-8775.

Please find attached a promotional flyer to share with your teachers.

Imparting knowledge of our electoral process and fostering civic responsibility among students builds a stronger democracy.

Thank you for considering this invitation.

Sincerely,

Signed :

Taylor Gunn, President & Chief Election Officer, CIVIX

Stéphane Perrault, Chief Electoral Officer Of Canada, Elections Canada
