August 2003

This report deals with the federal by-elections held May 12, 2003, in the electoral district of Perth–Middlesex in Ontario, and June 16, 2003, in the electoral districts of Lévis-et-Chutes-de-la-Chaudière and Témiscamingue in Quebec.

I am pleased to publish the report to satisfy the requirements of the Canada Elections Act, S.C. 2000, c. 9, and to ensure that Canadians have accurate and complete information on the by-elections. It is through such public reports that Parliament and Elections Canada make the Canadian electoral system open and transparent.

This report presents the results of the vote, by polling division, for the May 12 and June 16, 2003, by-elections in accordance with paragraph 533(a) of the Act. Subsection 534(2) of the Act also requires me to report on the administration of my Office since the last such report, as well as on certain actions taken by my Office in relation to the by-elections. A report will be published in March 2004 covering these and any other by-elections that may take place in 2003.

Information on contributions and election expenses declared by the candidates in the May 12 by-election will be available in October 2003 at www.elections.ca. The information for the June 16, 2003, by-elections will be posted at www.elections.ca in November 2003.
