Special Ballot Voting for National Electors Outside of Their Riding

You reside in Canada but you will be temporarily away from your riding (whether in Canada or abroad) during the election.

You can apply to vote by special ballot in person at any Elections Canada office in Canada; or by mail, fax or online. You can also contact us to ask for a paper application.

You can apply in person as soon as the election is called until 6:00 p.m., local time, on the Tuesday before election day. If you are applying by mail, fax or online, Elections Canada headquarters in Ottawa must receive your application by 6:00 p.m., Eastern time, on the Tuesday before election day. To vote, you must prove your identity and address. See the options available to prove your identity and address. If you are applying by mail, fax or online, you must include copies of your proof of identity and address. Do not send original documents.

If you are voting in person at an Elections Canada office, you can drop your ballot in a ballot box immediately after voting or leave with your ballot and return it to Elections Canada headquarters in Ottawa by 6:00 p.m. on election day. A ballot received by fax or email cannot be counted.
