Work on campus

To make voting more accessible to students, Elections Canada is opening voting offices on select campuses across Canada. To staff these offices, a number of part-time service agents and information officers must be hired. Service agents are front-line election workers who provide registration and special ballot voting services to electors on campus. Information officers answer elector questions and direct them to available service agent stations. Students are encouraged to apply.

Applicants must have the following skills:

  • Ability to read and write
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment
  • Ability to be impartial
  • Ability to serve voters with disabilities
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks
  • Basic math and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions and standards
  • Ability to learn quickly

Note: During the term of employment with Elections Canada, you may not take part in any partisan political activity.

Service Agent

Principal tasks

  • Ensures electors provide accepted proof of identity and address
  • Registers electors on the list of electors
  • Registers electors to vote by special ballot
  • Manages ballots and ballot boxes
  • Ensures candidates' representatives follow the rules and procedures

Qualifications

  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Be at least 16 years old on election day
  • Refrain from partisan political activity during the term of employment
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

Pay rate

$19.35 per hour

Information officer

Principal tasks

  • Directs electors and candidates' representatives to office management
  • Provides electors with information on accepted proof of identity and address
  • Directs the orderly flow of people in the voting office
  • Ensures that the voting office closes at the prescribed time, that electors are served before that time and that they have exercised their right to vote

Qualifications

  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Be at least 16 years old on election day
  • Refrain from partisan political activity during the term of employment
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

Pay rate

$15.00/hour

Canadian citizens who are at least 16 years old or older on election day are invited and encouraged to apply. Responses will be sent to applicants in September.
