Graph 27 – Aided knowledge of the ways to vote in a federal election
The graph shows the ways respondents, when prompted, said people could vote in a federal election, other than in person on election day. Aided responses are from four phases of the survey: Phase 1, benchmark survey; Phase 3, voter information card, advance poll and reminder brochure survey; Phase 4, election day survey; and Phase 5, post-campaign survey. The base is all respondents.
The responses by voting method and phase are as follows:
- Advance polling station: Phase 1, 89%; Phase 3, 84%; Phase 4, 80%; Phase 5, 91%
- Local Elections Canada office: Phase 1, 44%; Phase 3, 54%; Phase 4, 43%; Phase 5, 55%; for a notable increase of 11 percentage points over Phase 1
- By mail: Phase 1, 32%; Phase 3, 21%; Phase 4, 20%; Phase 5, 42%; for a notable increase of 10 percentage points over Phase 1
- Don't know: Phase 1, 6%; Phase 3, 9%; Phase 4, 8%; Phase 5, 3%
