The graph shows the percentage of respondents who, when prompted, said voters need to present proof of identity and address to vote in a federal election. Responses are from four phases of the survey: Phase 1, benchmark survey; Phase 3, voter information card, advance poll and reminder brochure survey; Phase 4, election day survey; and Phase 5, post-campaign survey. The base is all respondents.

The percentage of respondents who believed proof of identity was necessary rose 4 percentage points from Phase 1 to Phase 5. The data points are as follows:
