Chart 6-2: Cluster Segmentation of Canadian Youth

This chart shows a horizontal "x" axis and a vertical "y" axis intersecting at their midpoints to form quadrants. This intersection is the centre of the chart.

The five clusters are represented by five circles located in the quadrants. These cluster circles are numbered according to the size of the respondent group, with the circle marked "1" for Group 1 as the largest and the circle marked "5" for Group 5 as the smallest.

The "x" axis indicates the degree to which respondents face access barriers. From left to right, it is numbered "4, 3, 2, 1". Points 4 and 3 are on the left half of the "x" axis, representing few access barriers, and points 2 and 1 are on the right half, representing many access barriers.

The "y" axis indicates respondents' degree of motivation. From top to bottom, it is numbered "4, 3, 2, 1". Points 4 and 3 are on the top half of the "y" axis, representing high motivation, and points 2 and 1 are on the bottom half, representing low motivation.

The following coordinates indicate the location of each cluster circle:

Group 1 cluster: top left quadrant, at 3.3 "x" and 3.5 "y"

Group 2 cluster: on the "x" axis between the top-left and bottom-left quadrants, at 3.2 "x" and 2.9 "y"

Group 3 cluster: on the "x" axis between the top-right and bottom-right quadrants, at 2.2 "x" and 2.8 "y"

Group 4 cluster: bottom left quadrant, at 2.9 "x" and 2.0 "y"

Group 5 cluster: bottom right quadrant, at 1.8 "x" and 1.9 "y"
