Chief Electoral Officer's Report on the 41st General Election
and Official Voting Results Are Now Available
OTTAWA, Wednesday, August 17, 2011
- The report of the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Marc Mayrand, on the 41st general election and the official voting results are now available on the Elections Canada Web site at www.elections.ca.
- The Chief Electoral Officer must present a report to the Speaker of the House of Commons within 90 days after the date specified for the return of the writs in the election proclamation. The report describes Elections Canada's activities leading up to and during the election held on May 2, 2011, as well as related key issues.
- As well, after a general election, the Chief Electoral Officer must publish, without delay, a report that sets out the voting results by polling division and any other information he considers relevant. The official voting results include the number of votes cast for each candidate, the number of rejected ballots and the number of names on the final lists of electors.
Elections Canada is an independent body set up by Parliament.
