Self-training workbook: Information Officer
Directing electors to the service desks
Electors must be at least 18 years old on election day and they must be a Canadian citizen. However, they don't have to prove those things when they vote.
An elector is eligible to vote at your polling place if:
- They can prove their name and address
- They live in a polling division that belongs to a polling station at your polling place and
- They are registered to vote
These requirements are the same for every elector who comes to your polling place. The DRO decides if the requirements are met, and checks some other things too.
Electors prove their name and address by using one of the three options shown on Have your ID ready to vote.
Review the Have your ID ready to vote sheet and the section in your guidebook called 'Acceptable ID' for a few more rules about ID.
Activity
Empty your wallet. How many pieces of acceptable ID do you have?
- Using option 1?
- Using option 2?
Remember – they must appear on the list of acceptable ID on the Have your ID ready to vote sheet.
