Descriptive text of "How Polling Places" video

Animation begins:

The scene features several election officers wearing masks while the text appears on the screen.

"At every polling place, a team of election officers delivers two very important functions - voting and managing the polling place. As you watch this video, think about the tasks you might be doing."

The next scene shows an overview of the tables with election materials and election officers performing their duties.

"A polling place has one or more voting desks. At each voting desk, a Deputy Returning Officer – or DRO - makes sure electors are ready to vote, then administers the vote. They also keep a record of the voting at their station.
A polling place has a registration desk where more complicated elector situations are determined. Some of the extra procedures can be completed at the registration desk too. At most polling places, a registration officer sits at the registration desk."

The scene shows a supervisor wearing a mask while the text is displayed on the screen.

"A polling place has at least one supervisor - a ‘Central Poll Supervisor’ – or CPS. Supervisors support the DRO and the registration officer and they oversee voting procedures. It’s unusual, but if there is no registration officer, a supervisor runs the registration desk.
Supervisors also manage all aspects of the polling place that happen away from the voting desks and registration desk."

"The supervisor works with a team of information officers who greet electors and visitors when they arrive, direct them and issue masks."

The following scene shows a supervisor performing his duties.

"Information officers also organize some of the documents at the polling place and complete many other tasks to ensure everything runs smoothly."

Ten voting desks are displayed on the screen and then a transition presents several election officers.

"The largest polling places have 10 or more voting desks, each one with a DRO. There are several information officers, two or three registration officers and perhaps three supervisors."

The following scene shows election officers performing various tasks at the polling place.

"During the count, almost all election officers are directly involved in counting the ballots while perhaps one or two attends to the tasks needed to manage the polling place."

The scene begins by showing an election officer hanging a poster on a wall, then a transition shows several officers and the scene ends with a shot of electors leaving the polling place.

"As you can imagine, each polling place is unique, but the team of poll workers assigned by the returning officer, led by one or more supervisors, ensures that both voting and the polling place runs smoothly."

The animation ends with the Elections Canada logo.
