Methods of payment
General public
- Orders must be prepaid.
- Cheques, money orders, Visa or MasterCard are accepted as
payment on telephone and mail orders.
- Cheques or money orders attached to your mail order must be made payable to the Receiver General for Canada.
Federal government department or agency
For a federal government department or agency, the only acceptable method of payment is through Interdepartmental Settlements (IS).

Applicable taxes
When a sale takes place between Elections Canada and a client, applicable sales tax is charged. The following table indicates how sales tax is applied.

* HST applies only to Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. ** PST is calculated on the amount that includes GST for Quebec and Prince Edward Island. PST is calculated on the amount excluding GST for Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Note that there is no PST for Alberta, NWT, Nunavut and Yukon. |
Tax exemption
Elections Canada needs the exemption certificate number in order not to charge tax. If a customer claims to be exempt but does not provide Elections Canada with an exemption number, Elections Canada must charge tax. The exemption number must be provided when ordering.
